Things To See On Your Holidays In Latvia

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009
Latvia, or Lettonia as it is called is a country in the Northern Europe, and is separated from Sweden by the Baltic Sea. Most of the region is made up of plains, largely filled with forests and the highest point out here is the Gazinkalns, which is at a height of 1020 feet above sea level. Abundant wildlife can be found in this region because of the climatic conditions and rough terrain in some places near the sea. Since it is situated close to Russia, the winters are quite extreme, with constant snow falls through the season.

When holidaying in this part of the world, one needs to understand the terrain and plan accordingly. Listed below are five things that a tourist to Latvia may want to see while there on holiday.

Aglona Basilica is a church which was built in 1699, it still stands tall welcoming visitors into its walls. The rich architecture and beautifully crafted windows and doors are what make this place so beautiful. People come here to see the icon of the Virgin Mary, who is said to have saved Aglona from the plague that hit the country.

Every country has its share of history, and the Latvian Occupation Museum is well worth a visit. The kind of artefacts and monuments on display speak of the war that took place here, which left the place shattered. Apart from this, the Soviet and Nazi occupation of Latvia is also explained in detail right here. A museum that is a treasure chest of information is at times quite disturbing when we see the gory pictures and read about the events that took place early on.

Museum of Horns and Antlers is a museum with a difference, here one finds different kinds of horns and antlers on display. There are nearly 500 plus elk antlers and all these have been collected by one person during his lifetime. Vaide, a small town on the coastal region of Livonian has its share of beaches and sights to see, when one gets tired of all the horns and antlers on show. If we were to walk down the road, we would also notice antlers hanging from street signs, showing how common these are in Latvia.

Not only is Riga the capital city of Latvia, it is also where most of the Latvia’s population lives. It is a beautiful city in the Baltic region, filled with buzzing life and activities through the year. It is the best place to put down your bags and begin exploring the country from.

Wherever people go, they look for something different and relaxing which is not available in their home town. And in most cases, they seek a beach resort or at least a seaside place to chill out in. Jurmala is one of those beach resorts, which is popular amidst tourists. They come here to put their feet up, relax and relax, breaking away from their daily routine.

Five Things To Do On Your Holidays In Bosnia

Monday, April 20th, 2009
There is no doubt that for a long time Bosnia has only been known for the conflicts in this area. Bosnia can be said to be the most eastern part of the west and the most western point of the east. It is trying to recover and you will be able to holiday there and find some good places to enjoy.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, now also known as Bosniais a simulated group of four economies which are working together. They cannot be said to be doing a very good job of it. They consist of the Serbs, Croats and their supposed allies, the Bosnians and each of them run their parallel economy.

Morica Han is a place that you may come here looking for some history but will stay on and have coffee. When Sarajevo was used as a place to stop on the ancient crossroads between East and West, it was a tavern. Lot of things have changed since then, you will not find any wickerwork chairs which was used by the coffee drinkers. You will instead find benches for tired travellers and there is a carpet shop with stacks of rugs, which were stables earlier. Never the less you will have a feeling of some history here.

Mostar’s Old Bridge was devastated in 1993, but this bridge has been re made in 2004, the interesting point here is that they have used the traditional 16th-century technique to do it. A number of tourists come here to see young men diving into the river. This can be best seen in July, when there is a competition for all and a lot of professionals gather here.

You can see the National Museum from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 - 14:00 hours. It is located in an imposing Romanesque building. National museum is the best place to get to know the history of the land. It has a number of items displayed, that comprise of objects from the Neolithic era, Roman findings, traditional wear of Bosnian, Croat and Serb people. You will also see the Jewish Haggadah, a holy codex which was transported here by Sephardic Jews. There is a beautiful and comforting garden behind the museum and has an assortment of botanical collection.

You will find a more contemporary History Museum near the National Museum, which has an exhibit of old photographs from Bosnia and Herzegovina. You will see some very disturbing exhibits here which are from the 1990s war; there are some which are the personal belongings that bear the impression of the blockade.

The other highlight of Bosnia is the casinos, you may not be able to find too many of them but few good ones make up for it with their quality. The Coloseum Casino is just the one to see, it will not matter from where you have come, you will be able to play and enjoy all the games that you know. The location of this casino is just perfect as this area is well populated and a lot of tourists come here for business as well as holiday.

In recent years Bosnia has become a popular holiday destination with holiday makers staying in self catering holiday accommodation. Many choose to rent holiday villas and self catering apartments and use them as a base to explore Bosnia while there on holiday.

Miami Holiday Apartments. Be At Home On Vacation

Monday, March 9th, 2009
As a holiday getaway, Florida attracts more than its fair share of tourists. Over 1.5 million Britons, for example, traveled to Florida in 2005, a staggering number when you think that the feelings towards the US throughout Europe have not been as positive as it was before 9/11.

Florida boasts some of most beautiful beaches around notwithstanding the obvious popularity of our theme parks in and around Orlando. Miami in particular with its rich diversity of people from Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Europe and elsewhere is a unique melting post of cultures and languages.

If you travel to Miami with your family, then you will know that staying in crammed hotels, however luxurious or fancy they might be, may not be the solution for you and your family.

Miami Vacation Apartments are an ideal alternative for you and your family. They may not provide room service although some hotels have suites that are equipped with the usual amenities provided by conventional apartments, but they provide more room for your money.

Miami Holiday Apartments come in all regular combination of sizes, number of room (from one bedroom to 3 bedrooms and sometimes even more). They are fully furnished and equipped and boast the usual kitchen, lounge and dining room available in any home.

They are truly your home away from home, and with the additional space they provide, they will also most likely enable you to save a whole bunch of money on nightly rates when compared to hotel accommodation but also savings on meals taken at home rather than hotels for example.

Families can travel and explore their holiday destination and then come home to relax and rest in the privacy of their own bedrooms.

One last thing to consider when searching for a holiday apartments is that they are also called Vacation Condos, Miami Holiday Accommodation or even Vacation Apartments.

The Thing About American Vacations

Saturday, March 7th, 2009
I was thinking the other day that soon, I would have to start making plans for my next vacation. So there I was looking through my world atlas for a destination of my dreams flipping through the pages when I came across a map of North America and there it hit me. At a rate of one State a year, it would take 50 years to explore the US, 50 American Vacations that would not even scratch the surface of this great big land of ours. Indeed I remember visiting the Grand Canyon with my wife last year when we thought that one week of exploration through this incredibly beautiful land had only enabled us to see but a mere fraction and we had promised each other to return another year. I remember thinking back then that this magnificent Grand Canyon National Park had been carved by the Colorado River, a body of water moving down from a great distance and it probably took it millions of years to achieve its goal, some 6 million years ago. A piece of art, millions of years in the making but the greatest architect of all, nature, to bring us this ultimate American Vacation dream.

American Vacations are available in a multitude of packages and possibilities. Where you decide to go will depend on your area of interest and your lifestyle. If you are sporty kind, American National Parks are truly amongst the best in the world. Maintained to retain their original wild beauty they offer amenities and services to meet the needs of most tourists. Bring waking boots with you as there are as more trails then you would care to count, ranking from beginner to advanced depending on how fit you are. When taking a walking holiday, remember to follow all the safety recommendations that available at the Parks themselves or online. Too many people have been the unfortunate victims of their own ignorance when it comes to precautions, and you will want to be careful. Most national parks offer lodging of some sort, and for the more adventurous amongst you, camping might just be the thing for you!.

If you are more of sedentary type of traveler, Las Vegas vacations for example might be a destination that will appeal to you even though it might not with your bank manager’s seal of approval.

But of course, talking about every possibility offered by an American vacation would take thousands of pages which would be obsolete the moment such a book was written.

So: chose a state of interest, determine the areas you want to visit, the type of vacation you enjoy and start planning. You can get there by car, train, plane, boat and once there you can either camp, stay in a hotel, a cabin or a vacation home. It doesn’t really matter how you do it, the simple fact is that this American Land of ours is truly a gift of nature and you will likely make this next vacation of yours a holiday of a life time.
